About Beauvoir Summer

Located on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., Beauvoir Summer strives to create an inviting, collaborative and warm community for Prekindergarten to Twelfth grade campers. Camp programs are open to Beauvoir and non-Beauvoir children ages 3 to 11 years old over seven weeks.  Beauvoir Summer also offers a counselor-in-training program for students grades 6 through 12. Whether registering for one week or all summer, exciting activities include field trips, swimming lessons, outdoor adventure programs and specialty camps. 
Our camps are designed to fit into the varied and busy lifestyles of today’s families. Through a variety of offerings, Beauvoir Summer makes it easy for you to create a schedule that works best for your family, offering before and after camp care programs as well. We also provide snack and lunch, which is included in the pricing. Simply put, Beauvoir Summer can accommodate all of your summer camp needs!

Our Summer Staff

Caroline Maffry, Camp Director

Caroline spent her formative years abroad living in France, Italy, Poland and the Philippines and now resides in Washington, DC, raising her daughter. Caroline’s experience ranges from running her own travel company focused on European educational and cultural tours, to working as Director of Auxiliary and Summer Programs at a Montessori School in Maryland. Caroline is also a horseback rider instructor and avid equestrian. Caroline is in her seventh year at Beauvoir and eleventh year working in the field of Auxiliary and Summer Programs.

Mairim Wales, Assistant Camp Director

Mairim Wales grew up mainly in Arlington, VA and received her Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University, where she double-majored in English and Spanish and minored in Art. She also earned her MBA from Metropolitan College of New York. She holds certificates in Social Services and Early Childhood Education. She also lived in Washington State for three years and worked in family services, devoting her energy to foster care children as a Visitation Supervisor. Upon her return to the DMV, she led the After Care program at Beauvoir for four years. 2019 will mark her third year in her current role as Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs. In her free time, she loves playing with her two rescue pit bulls (Mack and Molly), working on DIY home projects with her husband, and all things arts and crafts.

Jake Wohl, Summer Camp Swim Director

Jacob (Jake) Wohl grew up in Tenleytown in Washington, DC. Jake received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Education from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He then earned his Masters of Education in Elementary Education at the University of Maryland. During the school year, Jake teaches Fourth Grade at Bethesda Elementary. Jake has enjoyed leading a fantastic array of camps at Beauvoir over the past six years and is excited to enter his second year as Swim Director at the Beauvoir Pool. In his free time, Jake loves woodworking, going for hikes, and reading. 

Rhéabecca Guillaume-Roussel, CIT Coordinator/Social Media Coordinator

Rhéabecca grew up in Queens, New York. Rhéabecca received her Bachelor’s Degree in English and Afro-American studies with a minor in Secondary Education from the illustrious, Howard University. She is currently working on her Masters of Literary Arts at American University. During the school year, Rhéabecca has served as our Interim Lead ABC educator this year. Rhéabecca was the front desk manager last summer at Beauvoir and is excited to enter her second year with our program as CIT Coordinator. Some of Rhéabecca’s hobbies are sneaker-collecting, traveling, and sports.

Lead Counselors 

Our Lead Counselors are experienced adult professionals who are either teachers or aspiring individuals in the field of education. Many of our summer staff are Beauvoir School teachers. 

Assistant Counselors

Our Assistant Counselors range from recent high school graduates to college students and professional adults who have a real interest in the education field and love working with elementary aged children.

Swim Staff

Our Swim Staff provides a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for our campers.  They are familiar with Red Cross swim levels and water safety practice. The Swim Staff is able to adapt their teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants in order to meet course objectives while having fun. Each member of the Swim Staff is CPR/AED and First Aid certified. In addition to our swim staff, the Beauvoir Pool has lifeguards on duty at all times.


Counselors-In-Training support the camp groups with everyday tasks ranging from group activities to collaborative projects. CITs gain experience by participating, observing and learning from their lead and assistant counselors with whom they are working closely.

About Beauvoir

Beauvoir Summer is located at Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, on the 60-acre Cathedral Close in Washington, DC. Beauvoir is a coeducational Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade school carefully designed for young learners.
