Brown Bears (Rising 4th & 5th Grade)

The Brown Bear program is designed for rising 4th and 5th graders, offering week-long programs to this intrepid age group. Each week is themed based offering a wide variety of activities, some with excursions, and swimming daily at the Beauvoir Pool. Program highlights include our two new weeks: Drobots Drone camp and Parkour Academy. We will continue to offer our Outdoor Adventures and Trailblazers camps. Howarts and Capital Culture camps return led by our very own Beauvoir Teacher Ms. Youse.

The Brown Bears program will offer SEVEN different one-week themed camp options. These options are full-day programs and all include daily swim instruction.

  • Week 1: June 15 - 19 - American Parkour Academy

    Parkour Academy 
    Full-Day Camp - $675
    8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., lunch & swimming instruction included

    Does your living room double as the set of Ninja Warrior? Is recess your child’s favorite subject? 

    Every child loves to run, jump and climb! Your child will learn to navigate obstacles and land safely, assessing their situation and using good judgement. These fun parkour classes also focus on creativity and use games to reinforce the skills and concepts learned in every session. Kids improve their focus and self confidence while learning a love for movement. 

    What’s needed: Comfy clothes and running shoes with rubber (not foam) soles. No prior experience necessary. 

    Please be advised that there are built in breaks for reading, playing board games, and also watching parkour and ninja related videos in this full day program.

    Offered by American Parkour Academy. With over 12 years of experience, the world’s first parkour training center opened right here in our nation’s capital. We have trained thousands of children through our programs in over 30 DC public schools, at our own Academy on New York Ave, and at after-school programs in many public and private schools.  

  • Week 2: June 22 - 26 - Musical Theater - Shrek

    Dance, sing and act as we stage Shrek and bring this fun adventure to life, the musical in a full-day camp! It’s a big bright beautiful world for everyones’ favorite ogre! Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre. This part romance and part twisted fairytale musical will be performed in a fantastic showcase at the end of the week for the whole family!
  • Week 3: June 29 - July 2 (Closed July 3) - Gourmet Chefs - American Picnic

    American cuisine is inspired by cultures around the world but has become uniquely and deliciously its own! For most Americans, nothing says summer like Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Potato Salad. And while some of those items are definitely on our All American Summer Menu, we are also going to explore American cuisine from sea to shining sea, from Southern BBQ to California’s twist on the BLT to the countrywide favorite Strawberry Shortcake! Come dive into summer with Tiny Chefs-- It will feel like the 4th of July all week!

  • Week 4: July 6 - 10 - Trailblazers

    8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., lunch & swimming instruction included

    This program is the very definition of trailblazing! Campers will be challenged with fun and exciting summertime activities like rock climbing, kayaking or canoeing at Riley's Locks, hiking, and whitewater rafting at Carderock. Watch your camper develop confidence and lifelong skills while having the summer of his or her life as a Beauvoir Trailblazer! Activities are subject to change.

    Clothing: Participants should wear all purpose clothing designed for water and land. Bathing suits, shorts, dry tops, and water shoes are all highly recommended.

  • Week 5: July 13 - 17 - Outdoor Adventures

    Cookout and sleepover, Friday, July 17
    * pick up from the sleepover will be Saturday, July 18 at 8:00 a.m.

    Outdoor Adventures will take advantage of the great outdoors exploring the best that the D.C. area has to offer. Highlights of this camp are hiking the Billy Goat Trail, exploring Great Falls National Park, and an all-day trip to Adventure Island across from Riley's Lock. The group will cross the Potomac in the "war canoe", experience team-building challenges, rapid swimming, fire building, tree houses, and island games. At the end of this adventurous day,
    campers will return to Beauvoir for a cookout with their family and an overnight campout* on campus. Campers will feel like they are at a sleep-away camp as they challenge themselves on a daily basis with outdoor activities. All of this while forming new friendships and having plenty of time to do one of the most important activities any camp can offer—just being a kid.

  • Week 6: July 20 - 24 - Capital Culture - History Comes Alive!

    Washington, D.C. is one of the most culturally-rich cities in the nation, with more museums and monuments than we ever have a chance to fully explore. In this session, campers will have a chance to explore some of these gems in our own backyard. Students will learn mapping skills as they hunt for hidden geocaches downtown, ponder who and what we choose to honor as we walk the entire National Mall, and explore the wonders of space, science, and architecture through trips to museums across the city. Campers will document their adventures and create their own guide to DC as the week goes on. 
  • Week 7: July 27 - 31 - Hogwarts

    8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., lunch & swimming instruction included

    Can’t get enough of the Harry Potter series? Then come to Hogwarts Camp at Beauvoir, where magic comes to life! Learn how the fantastical subjects Harry and his friends study connect to our own world. Your child will explore chemistry as they create color-changing potions, discover real-life bizarre plants in Herbology, map the skies in Astronomy, and of course, play Quidditch. Join us and see how reading can open up a whole new world!

  • Swimming at Camp

    Beauvoir campers of all ages have the opportunity to enhance their swimming skills through group instruction. Grouped by skill, campers learn a variety of swim techniques, practice water-safety skills, and play fun water games.

  • Before and After Camp Care

    Extended camp care is available before camp from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. or after camp from 3:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this time, children will enjoy a more relaxed program including outdoor play, snack, indoor arts and crafts, and other games. Time is also devoted to quiet relaxation and group activities. Pre-registration is required and a drop-in option cannot be accommodated during the summer camp. About Beauvoir

Beauvoir Summer is located at Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, on the 60-acre Cathedral Close in Washington, DC. Beauvoir is a coeducational Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade school carefully designed for young learners.
